The farm was worked by Eddie and Mick until Eddie bought Mick’s share in 1942 and Eddie became one of the first milk suppliers in the district when he commenced dairy farming in the same year.

Michael walked everywhere. To his grandchildren’s knowledge, he did not drive a car. Michael often walked up to Swanfels after tea at night to visit the Maguire and the Murphy families. When Pat, Elaine, Mike, Bill or Joe asked him where he was going, Michael (Grandfather) always said, “Going to see the gels (girls)”.

In about the 1940s and ’50s, Michael went to the Ekka every year staying with Jim and Jean at Torwood. Every day he went to the Show and then met up with Jim at the Waterloo Hotel in the Valley after Jim finished work and they travelled home together.

On a day in August 1952, on Michael’s and Jim’s way home from the Ekka, as Michael and Jim crossed the road after alighting a tram, Michael was struck by a motorcycle. Michael did not recover from the injuries that he suffered and passed away on 15 August 1952 at the age of 84 years. Michael was a very highly regarded and much loved person.
